The Cat Who Caught a Killer by L T Shearer is a charming cosy crime listen for fans of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club and S. J. Bennett’s The Windsor Knot.

'Charming and original. This book is the cat’s whiskers' - Anthony Horowitz, author of The Twist of a Knife

Meet Conrad. Conrad is a cat. You’ve never met a detective like him before.

Neither has Lulu Lewis, until he walks into her life one summer’s day. Mourning the recent death of her husband, the former police detective had expected a gentle retirement, quietly enjoying life on her new canal boat, The Lark, and visiting her mother-in-law in a nearby care home.

But when her mother-in-law dies suddenly in suspicious circumstances, Lulu senses foul play and resolves to find out what really happened. And a remarkable cat named Conrad will be with her every step of the way . . .

Critic reviews

A charming, off-beat story with some great characters and wonderful London locations. I’m sure it will make readers long for their own canal boat, and quite possibly - if they don’t already have one - their own talking cat. Conrad is a delight (SJ Bennett, author of The Windsor Knot and A Three Dog Problem)
A captivating, charming and gentle tale, perfect for all those who love their crime cozy (Peter James, author of the Roy Grace series)
Charming and original. This book is the cat’s whiskers (Anthony Horowitz, author of The Word is Murder and the Sherlock Holmes novels The House of Silk and Moriarty)

I had a good time with The Cat Who Caught a Killer. The main human character and the cat are both characters I’m hoping to see again. The side characters add just the right touches. The mystery was a bit predictable but I never mind that as long as the journey is a joy. The Cat Who Caught a Killer delivered everything I wanted and I’ll be recommending it to friends!

Great for a rainy Sunday. Light hearted. Well plotted. Engaging characters. What more do you want in a cozy mystery?

Great listen

Wimpy protagonist with back story that didn't fit. Performance or writing I don't know? Won't pursue 2nd.

Disconnect btwn main character description and behavior/persona

There are so many fun things you could do with a cat as a character and the author did none of them. Also kept repeating COVID misinformation (ie someone who got hit by a bus but tested positive was recorded as a COVID death? WTF? Didn’t finish it

No fun + Misinformation
