A novella set in the hard-scrabble world of James S. A. Corey's NYT-bestselling Expanse series, The Churn takes the bestselling sci-fi series to the dark world of organized crime, drugs, secrets, and murder that shaped the Rocinante's mechanic, Amos. Now a Prime Original series.

HUGO AWARD WINNER FOR BEST SERIES

Before his trip to the stars, before the Rocinante, Timmy was confined to a Baltimore where crime paid you or killed you. Unless the authorities got to you first.
On a future Earth beset by overpopulation, pollution, and poverty, people do what they must to survive. The Churn follows a crime boss named Burton as his organization is threatened by a new private security force tasked with cleaning up the city. When the police start cracking down, Burton and his footsoldiers-loyal lieutenant Erich, former prostitute Lydia, and young enforcer Timmy-become increasingly desperate to find a way out.

I really loved getting more insight into Amos's background! All of the Expanse characters are interesting, but there was something about Amos that just made me want to know more; especially about his life prior to the Cant. This was a brief look at his life on Earth in Baltimore. I would love if there was a short about his time with Naomi and how that loyalty bond formed.

For the love of Amos!

I really enjoy the world, I enjoy the characters, the overall story is sci-fi but not overly so. This story could take place in the 40’s and would still work. It’s got good bone with good skin to match. Really enjoyed it.

Really interesting characters….

Love Amos and grateful this book was rerecorded with Mr. Mays, as his voice is the Amos I've grown accustomed to.

Jefferson Mays!!!

A great origin story for my favorite character of the series, but of course I'd say he deserved a full length tale. My one and only gripe besides, a minor one, is that the narrator fails to meet the intended tone the author had in mind (as far as I can tell) maybe once or twice. Overall, an excellent story worth more than it costs. This is a solid buy.
