It's early spring in Illinois, and a tornado hits Mt. Pilot, destroying the elementary school and doing damage to the high school. As the town recovers from the catastrophe, Addie McCormick and her friend, Nick Brady, learn they will be bussed to different schools. Unhappy with that news, they convince Mrs. McCormick to home school them and two of their close friends.

The children learn there are lots of advantages to their new circumstances. One is the opportunity to be tutored by a high school student, Conor Wright, who is highly skilled and considered a computer whiz kid. In fact, Conor has written his own computer game, one that will probably make him lots of money – someday.

But there are soon ugly rumors that Conor didn’t write the game – he only helped. Then he is accused of stealing valuable computer software from the main office in the high school, and there seems to be lots of evidence against him.

Addie and Nick can’t believe their friend would lie or steal, and they set out to prove his innocence. Soon they come up with other suspects who might be very unhappy if their guilt is exposed!
