From the bestselling author of The Girl in the Corner comes a story that asks: how do you forgive the family that lied to you, and love the mum you never had?

When her loving, free-spirited grandmother Primrose passes away, Victoria is bereft, yet resilient - she has survived tragedy before. But even her strength is tested when a mysterious woman attends Prim's funeral and claims to be the mother Victoria thought was dead.

As the two women get to know each other and Victoria begins to learn more about her past, it becomes clear that her beloved grandmother had been keeping life-changing secrets from her. Desperate for answers, she still struggles to trust anyone to tell her the truth.

To live a full and happy life, Victoria knows she must not only uncover the truth, but find a way to forgive her family. But after so many years, is trusting them even possible?

A nerdy girl’s journey through loss, friendship, figuring out that her crush isn’t who she wants to be with, and finding that she will survive. I cried so much through the end of the story.

The downside: the narrator hardly had any change in her voice for different characters, and no accents at all. Sometimes in a dialogue it was hard to tell when a different person started speaking, because they both sounded exactly the same. Also, where they would have been a break in the book - like a couple lines between the paragraphs - the narrator kept reading as if it were the same scene. Actually, it jumped ahead to the next morning, or a different location. So a little confusing. But the narrator still read with ease, not stilted, and the funny bits made me laugh, and the sad bits made me cry. So over all, I enjoyed the listen.

The perfect non-romantic down-to-earth heart-breaking novel

I really should dig deeper in reviews on the books. The summery of this book sounded very interesting and I was looking forward to an interning story. The kind that the family secret is a century old. This story mystery is only 18 years old. Main character is 18 years old. Story was interesting enough to finish but not listed as a YA book. Good writing, good narration.

This is a YA book

Every story I listen to makes me love this author more. She has the ability to capture the hearts of her characters and all emotions. You do need a tissue box close by too, it is good and bad scenes that play out. Well done on another good read. Tour narration is excellent.

The start was good. The end was good. Unfortunately, the rest rambled on and on and on.

Could be better!
