A grumpy duke. A sharp-tongued widow. One reckless wager that changes everything.

A Pride and Prejudice Variation

She swore never to belong to another man. He never wanted to be a legend. Society has other plans.

Elizabeth Bennet Collins has survived a loveless marriage, buried a husband she never wanted, and emerged into London society with one firm resolution: she will never again be any man's possession. Armed with a sharp wit and sharper instincts, she has already refused three proposals this Season—and become the most whispered-about widow of the Ton.

Fitzwilliam Darcy, Duke of Derbyshire, is exhausted by his reputation as England's greatest seducer.
Now, goaded by an old enemy into a wager he should never have accepted, he must win the favour of the one woman in London immune to charm—all while protecting her from the man who nearly destroyed his sister.

What begins as calculation becomes something neither of them expected.

Because Elizabeth sees through his mask. And Darcy cannot seem to stay away.

But secrets have a way of surfacing, and enemies never rest. When the truth comes out, Elizabeth must decide whether the proud duke who claims to love her is worth the risk of trusting again—and Darcy must prove that beneath the legend beats the heart of a man worth forgiving.

A witty, passionate Regency romance for readers who love their Darcy awkward, their Elizabeth unimpressed, and their happily-ever-after hard-won.

Those with delicate Regency sensibilities may discover a blush or two along the way. Consider yourself warned. Proceed with a steady fan at hand.

I think the story itself might have been pretty good. I don't know why the decision was made to narrate it with virtual voice, but I don't think I will be listening to any other stories that use it. The lack of emotion brought me out of the experience. If you don't mind the virtual voice I recommend the story.

Virtual Voice wasn't a great experience

I really liked this story. Elizabeth is a widow after being married to mr Collins after mr Bennet’s death. We are not told why they don’t live at Longbourn but I guess the entail goes on where there were no children. She meets Darcy - the Duke of Derbyshire - in London. There is a bet. Great jaff.

Cute story mature ending
