"Marry or lose your inheritance." A commitment phobic heir in Detroit, Michigan faces the ultimate challenge from his powerful grandmother and family company CEO in this charming, irresistibly fun and flirty new contemporary romance from award-winning author Elle Wright.

Wesley Batchelor is desperate for an image reboot—stat. A mysterious social media influencer keeps revealing his many reckless romantic liaisons, putting everything Wesley has worked so hard for at stake. Worse, he’s in deep trouble with his grandmother and Batchelor Enterprises boss, Joyce, his one and only true cheerleader. So he’s stunned and relieved when his gorgeous ex, private detective Albany Keyes, is recruited to track down the leaker....

All Wes has to do is keep a cool-headed professional distance. Easy, right? Until the incendiary passion between him and Albany suddenly reignites. And he realizes he wants more from her—just like always....

For Joyce's sake, Albany reluctantly accepts the assignment to aid Wes. After all, she needs the money to regroup after a disastrous divorce. But this time, she's going to call the shots. She doesn’t need her heart re-broken by the only man she's ever loved. Yet she soon finds their differences are drawing them together again. And again. And again. Now, with both their careers and their hearts on the line, can they risk another chance on each other—this time, for keeps?

First story by this author and boy was l pleasantly surprised with the characters and context. Can we agree that these grandmas were off the chain? Grandma Gang, for real. Wesley went thru challenge after challenge until he began self destructing. And Lord Albany, she was almost incorrigible. Albany is the reason this is not a 5 Star Read...her continual rejection of Wes was annoying

Grandma Gang Gang

The plot was pretty good!! Didn’t see the end coming! The dynamics between main characters was amazing and had me cheering them on.

Great listening and story!

Second Chance Romance. Mystery Blogger. Complicated Family Dynamics.

This was a pass for me. The idea and plot is interesting, albeit done before, but the execution left me struggling to finish the book.

I immersive read this one, and while the narrator's did a good job, the story on page was what they had to work with.

The romance itself was not believable. The conversations between the main couple in addition to the conversations the FMC had with her friends sounded like childish fluff. Not the type of conversations or considerations an adult woman, married before and divorced would have. Also, there were not enough moments that weren't fit with random spouts of lust. There was nothing except what little we were told of their childhood relationship.

Additionally, messy divorce? Ok. However, there is a the lack of movement on page displaying an investigation. It is mentioned multiple times that the FMC has an impressive background in investigative work with the FBI, yet we don't really see any of those skills play out in the story. We get sparse mentions of her theories and that is it. Most of the first half of the story is spent on woe is me conversations stalled between she is broke and she can't work so closely with her ex.

The story/writing itself was a bit choppy. There were a lot of instances were I just felt dropped into a scene. It felt as though there was too much empty space. A general lack of transitions.

The messy grandmother's were fun, but not enough. Not sure I would continue this series.
