‘DCI Matilda Darke is the perfect heroine’ Elly Griffiths

A short story and prequel featuring DCI Matilda Darke, star of Michael Wood’s darkly compelling crime series. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride, Mark Billingham and Val McDermid.

It’s Christmas in Sheffield. But not everyone is enjoying the festive season…

A man has been found brutally murdered in his own home. The victim is Iain Kilbride, a once-famous TV star who has faded into obscurity. All signs point to a break-in, but why has nothing been taken?

For DCI Matilda Darke, this is the perfect chance to prove her newly formed Murder Investigation Team are up to the task. Matilda suspects the clue to finding the killer lies in Iain’s past, but she’s about to discover how dark that past really is…

Love my British detective series, oh, yes, I do. This was listed in the “suspense” genre; it would be more suited as “modern detective.” I chose this short novel as a quick listen to rest assured that this author and narrator would be worth it, and they most definitely were. After my last choice (I returned it before finishing) and a few other recent losers, I thought this a good idea. Author Michael Woods brings us the newly appointed and outstanding DCI Matilda Darke. Charming, amusing and enjoyable, she and brilliant narrator Stephanie Beattie lead us on an thrilling murder investigation. Thank you to the perfectly paired author and narrator. Can’t wait for the next book. Highly recommended.

Finally! A exceptional choice to a new detective series.

It is one of those type books you can’t unhear,.. it will be forever rolling around in my head,… horrible images I’m unable to forget… quite terrible images.
Shame on the author for that..

Wish I Had Never Heard This Book..
