James Thompson is a "forensic historian" who explains what once (really) happened in carefully documented causal sequences.

In his American Revolutions Series, Thompson reconstructs how the amazing prophecy Alexis de Tocqueville made in 1840 came true.

"The First Revolutions in the Minds of the People" is the first book in this four-book series. In this engrossing narrative, Thompson establishes the causal connection between the political insurgency waged by English "placeman" John Wilkes in London during the first decade of King George III’s reign (1760-1770) and the political insurgency Sam Adams and his circle waged in the King’s American colonies during the decade preceding the “shot fired heard round the world” (April 1775).

Establishing this connection and how Sam Adams adapted Wilkes’s method of "speaking in the voice of the people" confirms the fallacies in the political histories produced by Professor Bernard Baylin and his progressive compatriots during the middle of the last century.

History enthusiasts and scholars will both appreciate Thompson’s work. Listening to reader Maggie Ross interpret the text is a real pleasure.
