Sarma had a thriving restaurant, a beloved brand, and a mission: to change the way people eat.

From the outside, her life appeared charmed—celebrity patrons, glowing press, and a business on the brink of expansion—until she met the man who would dismantle it all and ultimately land her in jail.

The enigmatic “Mr. Fox” barreled into her life with promises of unlimited funding, boundless empowerment, even immortality. What he delivered instead was fear, coercive control, and catastrophic financial ruin.

The Girl with the Duck Tattoo is a raw, unflinching memoir of how one smart, driven woman went from building a dream to being ensnared in a cult of one. It’s a wild ride through delusion and deceit, a cautionary tale of idealism weaponized, and a tribute to the dog who helped bring her back to herself.

If you watched Bad Vegan, you saw a version shaped to make her look unstable and heighten the drama. The Girl With the Duck Tattoo audiobook feels more grounded and honest—it strips out the manipulative tone and fills in what the docuseries edited for effect. It’s not as flashy, but it’s more believable. Worth it if you want a clearer picture of what actually happened.

THE REAL STORY

It serves as a real-world warning about how intelligent, driven people can still fall prey to con artists and coercive control. Sarma explores how manipulators study vulnerabilities and weaponize idealism—making it especially relevant in an era of scams, spiritual grifters, and toxic relationship. Sarma put her blood, sweat, and tears in this book. You really can feel her pain in it while at other times she has you laughing over her keen sense at details. Highly recommend reading or listening to this book!

Raw, Compelling, and surprisingly humorous at times

I listened to this 20 hour audiobook over the course of three days. Sarma lays herself bare in such a vulnerable and courageous way. I have nothing but respect and empathy for her. I truly wish the best for her. And I wish for a special place in Hell for Anthony.

A brave, compelling and heartbreaking story
