I found it to be a profound story that encourages reflection on not judging a book by its cover and on how envy and unfounded judgments can seriously affect others.

I read this in high school over 40 years ago, and decided to listen to it to remember why it's a classic. Keeping in mind the year or was written, it's edgy and provocative while questioning American attitudes about wealth and the American dream, but I struggled to listen to it. The audio voice was monotone and and flat- apparently ai generated. Next time I'll be careful not to purchase a book voiced with AI.
