The Grumpy Old Man is a warm, funny, and relatable storybook about an old man who has an opinion about everything—and none of them are particularly cheerful. From noisy mornings and grocery stores gone wrong to technology, traffic, holidays, and everyday modern life, he faces each day with a sharp eye, dry humor, and perfectly timed complaints.

Told through short, story-driven chapters, each filled with simple scenes and memorable one-line sayings, this book captures the small annoyances everyone recognizes—but rarely says out loud.

Grumpy, yes.
Mean, no.
Honest? Absolutely.

As the days pass, the world doesn’t change much—but something quietly shifts. Beneath the complaints is a man who notices more than he admits, remembers how things used to be, and keeps showing up anyway.

Perfect for:

Listeners who enjoy clean, observational humor

Fans of short, episodic stories

All ages—from teens to grandparents

Anyone who has ever muttered, “It didn’t used to be like this.”

Whether you listen to a chapter at a time or laugh straight through, The Grumpy Old Man is a reminder that even on the most irritating days, there’s still something worth noticing.

Even if it’s just something to complain about.

I genuinely enjoyed listening to The Grumpy Old Man by Jeffrey Rittenhouse. It is funny in a clean, clever way that sneaks up on you. Every short chapter felt like a scene I have lived through myself, from modern technology frustrations to everyday annoyances we all pretend do not bother us.

What makes this audiobook work so well is the tone. The humor is dry but never cruel. Beneath the complaints there is heart, memory, and a quiet warmth that gives the character depth. It is the kind of listen you can enjoy in one sitting and still think about later.

If you appreciate observational humor and honest commentary about modern life, this audiobook is absolutely worth your time.

This book felt like home as the grumpy old man is just like my grandfather. I miss him, and this book made me smile and laugh throughout while bringing back memories of my grandfather.

Some may call this man hard or mean, while others may say he is funny and honest. I'm in the latter camp, but of course, there is always a right way of saying something honestly, which is what makes this book funny because he doesn't always say it the right way.

Funny but Honest

I loved how short, to the point, and honest this book was. It was a breath of fresh air in a world that just feels fake so much of the time. Let’s face it, there are plenty of things in modern life that annoy us and yet nobody says a thing about them! I’m glad this book shed some humor on that subject!

Fun stories!
