Number-one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts presents a story of love in the fast lane.

He is the man she had once dreamed about, but never dared to love. Now, Cynthia "Foxy" Fox is back in town and she's forced to confront race car driver Lance Matthews and all the old feelings simmering between them. Just as in the world of auto racing, Foxy knows the stakes are high - but so is the prize. Because this time, the only true victory would be love.

I think a narrator can make a break a story. She did ok for the female parts but terrible for the male parts.

not normal Nora

Not a fan of the narrator's voice for the male protagonist.

The pace of the story seemed a bit rushed. Not one of my favorites from Nora Roberts.

Still a fan, just not for this book

Unfortunately I spent a lot of credits stockpiling Nora Roberts books because I love so many of her series. I had no idea that she’d written such lame romances like this one. All fluff and no point. I purchased it so long ago that returning was not an option or I would have immediately. It’s boring and lacks any substance. The voice the narrator uses for the main male character is creepy and sleazy sounding. Don’t waste your credits.

Boring and Annoying

The Heart’s Victory has 2 romances, racing scenes, and crash scenes. Foxy and Lance’s romance was class difference, but they pined for each other. Pam and Kirk’s romance was forced proximity. Both Lance and Kirk are alphaholes who were very domineering and at times dubious consent jackasses. This book was written in 1982. It reads that way. That being said and knowing the type of heroes that were written during this time period, the romances were good. The characters were a little thin, but I did connect with Foxy. For this being Nora’s second or third book, it’s pretty good.
