Christian parents are not exempt from the struggle and heartbreak caused by rebellious children. This softcover version of the classic resource The Hurting Parent by Margie Lewis, written with her son, bestselling author Gregg Lewis, for the first time offers the rest of the story that inspired the original edition of this book.

The Hurting Parent takes a realistic approach to the problems young people face today--peer pressure, easy access to drugs and alcohol, and cultural influences that pull them from their family's faith. The Lewises acknowledge there are no simple formulas or simple answers. But the biblical insight, emotional understanding, and practical encouragement they offer will be life changing.

Written by a hurting parent for other hurting parents, this book, by ministering to hundreds of thousands of families over the past thirty years, has earned a prominent spot not only on the personal bookshelves of countless parents and their family and friends, but also on the professional shelves of pastors, youth ministers, and Christian counselors.

I have 4 adult children and one teen. Two of my adult children have wavered from the Lord currently and a few years back my oldest had. He's back and strong in his relationship with the Lord. But watching two more go through this is so painful and heart wrenching at times. The hurting parent doesn't tell you how to "fix" it but gives real life stories that my heart could relate to and answered questions I've had on how to respond in certain situations. I have more hope and greater insight how to keep my connection with these two kids. It's written over 30 years ago but has timeless testimonies.

Living in the middle of three prodigals are once is daunting at best. I was seeking what my role is to be with each of our kids. It’s still a bit confusing because it’s hard to know when to step in & love & when to let go & trust. Both are the answer. Knowing what to do when is the tricky part. Our kids are all adopted & carry shame from their previous life which makes things more challenging at times. The stories helped as they were real. Our hope is real! Gods timing is perfect. And He loves our kids as they all belong to him. My prayer life feels more important after reading this book. I pray daily & many times a day. It just seems more hopeful now for some reason. There is power in prayer. My kids know I am praying. And I keep reminding them I love them no matter what. I already shared this book with my momma friends who struggle like we do. So thank you for putting this out there years ago & praise God for his patience as He allows us all to chose Him or not.

Really encouraging!
