Love to hear Mr. Harrison's work. Wish he would do The Hand of Fu Manchu so I could have all three in series: This book, The Return of Fu Manchu (second in the series), The Hand of Fu Manchu. The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins is another he does wonderfully......everything he does is great!

Great Book

This book with all its mechanical flaws ( the protagonists tend to get out of jams too easily) is a fun book to read. Memorable scenes that stick with the reader and really make the reader experience along with the characters. Escape literature from the past that is solid gold.

Oh what fun

Written shortly after the Boxer Rebellion in China.

It seems common that those most victimised by gross brutality then become objects of gross discrimination.
There was an Independence Movement against the West after The Boxers decided 'enough was enough', with the West destroying Chinese Culture and Society with huge loss of life, out of greed, and then having the audacity to send their missionaries to preach love and forgiveness..

As a glimpse into popular thinking of this time the story could be given a resounding 5 star listen.

However we have all manner of politically incorrect sentiments being expressed in this classic piece of popular fiction.
It was written as a serial in the newspapers of the day, and this explains the multiple adventures for our hero as he unravels the plots to bring down the Government.

Fu-Manchu stories did become a popular series in it's day.

Pulp Fiction of the day

Where does The Insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not top 25, but top 100.

Which character – as performed by B. J. Harrison – was your favorite?

Fu-Manchu. He brought the evil genius without making the man a one dimensional cardboard character.

Any additional comments?

This is one of those books which are easier to listen to then read text. Harrison is the reason.

The narrator brings the charactors to life.
