Lord Tristram Radcliffe has a secret - he is the only dragon at the king’s court in Llangard. It’s a secret he’s kept from the knights he’s fought beside, from the ladies who bat their lashes at him, and from his closest companion, Prince Reynold. If it were to get out, he’d be banished to the Mawrcraig Mountains along with the rest of his kind, but the kingdom of men is the only one he’s ever known, and his heart lives in the stone halls of those who’d count him an enemy.

When the old king dies and Prince Reynold takes the throne, two visitors from the north throw Tristram into the middle of the ancient conflict between dragons and men. They put him on a collision course with the king’s shadow, Bet Kyston, a dangerous assassin who may want him dead or may want more of Tristram that he’d ever thought to give.

With the eyes of dragons upon him and a threat from the north creeping toward the home he loves, Tristram must weigh his allegiances before his dual legacies tear him apart.

I didn’t know how I would feel about this story but the plot captivated me and kept me hooked from start to finish. The narrator made it easy to follow and did a good job on giving the characters their own life. Looking forward to what comes next.

An interesting story

MMy Thoughts and Review:
Holy Red Wedding, Batman!

Okay, perhaps it wasn't THAT red, but it was intense, toe fidgeting, nail-biting, and I may have squawked, "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!" And oh sweet Mother of Dragons after one major event, I will NOT spoil for you, to say I was shocked and thrown off is as much an understatement as hearing it suggested bleach IVs should be "checked into" made me want to move to the woods and live among the squirrels... Squeaker McSqueakin'! 😵 And NOPE, that's not sarcasm. 😂😂😂

This fantasy world is rife with many secrets, a few agendas, and is told from various characters' perspectives (POV). The audio version brings the world even more alive thanks to the very talented narrations of Greg Boudreaux (one of my favorite) and Lessa Lamb (new to me).

The Story is stylized in much the way Martin (GoT), Tolkien, Lawhead, and other fantasy authors love to build their worlds. It's very much like a game of Jenga where you can have a large cast where each character story builds on the back of another. The key, as we all know, is to be the last one standing when the story (game) ends. Causing the tower of blocks to fall in the game is like the end of a character, in one way or another. That's how I view fantasy world-building when it engages a large cast anyway. Regarding character perspectives, there is one wonderful difference to the fantasy I grew up with, the LGBTQ+ inclusion. Well, to be fair, only LGB has been represented so far, but this is just book one, and there ARE DRAGONS, so I am content. 😁

So, if fantasy is your thing, and you love the idea of discovering something a bit different, a bit dark, a bit lovely, and a lot wonderful dive into The King's Dragon. Your psyche will be thanking your ears for a very long time to come.

This is the first I’ve listened to these two authors together and by the narrator. I am very happy with where it is headed.

The story felt slow to get started. I nearly abandoned it a couple times, but the story moved into a deeply intriguing narrative. The character development started really deepening which in turn allowed the story to move forward. I love the strength shown from the female characters and their navigating the societal norms expected of them despite their true potential. The shadow/light played out between Bet and Tris is perhaps a bit contrived but holds promise of evolving and deepening past the stereotypical trope. I am looking forward to continuing the series.

A great start to a immersive series I hope.

I’ve never reviewed a book before but it was just amazing. Every character was given so much definition, even the side characters.

Amazing!!
