While Emma is recovering from a traumatic brain injury, she has a premonition that her husband is murdered.

She dreams of her husband’s body floating in the water, surrounded by blood. She ignores the sense of foreboding and joins Paul on a boat to celebrate a big new client. By the end of the night, Paul is dead and Emma wonders: Did she see the future, or did create it?

Are the gaps in her memory hiding that she’s a killer? Detective Garrett, the investigating officer, has the same question.

After another death occurs, Emma struggles with what is real and what is imagined. Is there a murderer out there who is watching and waiting for Emma? Is Emma the villain? Can she trust these premonitions, or is her brain misfiring, creating connections that don’t really exist?

Beneath the surface of the mystery, is the journey of a woman who finds her voice and becomes rooted in her own power to create change.

THE KNOWING is a razor sharp, fast-paced listen with surreal poetic glimpses into the workings of Emma’s mind.

Tanya Eby’s emotional writing and Sara Sheckells’ intimate narration combine to make a story you can get inside of, seeing through main character Emma’s eyes. You’re not always sure of what you see but you are always sure of what you feel. I won’t give away too much but Emma goes from weak to strong as she questions her circumstances, her memories and herself, learning more and more truth as she goes. She starts out timid, but she’s empowered by the truth. Sheckells’ narration is personal, dramatic and clear, her character voices are terrific. You forget you’re listening to one storyteller and just witness the story in your mind. A superb listen.

As she is trying to piece together the past, the present, the truth and the fiction, we are right there with her - attempting to put together who did what and when. This is a fantastic domestic thriller - if you liked Girl on a Train or Anatomy of Fall it will be up your alley. And the little touch of witch - does Emma have a gift?
