The Last Layover is a fiction novel based on real places and potential scenarios where an out of control government pushes America to the brink of financial and social collapse. This vulnerable state allows the unthinkable to happen, causing the comfort, security, and conveniences of our modern first world society to quickly come to an end.

Imagine yourself far from home when the world suddenly changes. Just think back to Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, and other such recent events, and you can see just how quickly society breaks down. Those situations even occurred with the nature of the emergency being confined to one specific geographic area, where help is just the next town or state away. Now also think about how that scene would play out if help was not going to come. What about all of those modern conveniences of society like ATM's, debit/credit card readers, cell phones, and the Internet? What if it all went down while you were away from home? What about our food supply chain? How much food does your family have at home to get them through if the shelves were to go empty? Do you have what it takes to defend yourself and those around you when society takes an ugly turn and violence becomes necessary for survival?

In The Last Layover, an airline crew finds themselves on an overnight layover in New York City, far from their homes, when a series of events take place that bring our modern society to its knees.

This is my first. read of a "prepper" and his story.

Certainly had me on edge.
At times it was fascinating and disturbing.
As a fiction it felt it could be a reality in the not so distant future.
This story has me thinking about preparedness in general.

If you haven't thought about civil disorder, this book will do the trick. And perhaps even more so, to motivate you and the family to plan for tomorrow if the grid were to collapse.

Be safe folks.

Too close for comfort.

This book was very hard to get through. The author spends a lot of time explaining things that don't matter to the story. I finished it but only cuz I was hoping it would get better. Save your money or credit for a better story.

Joshua Bangle does a bang up job 😁 narrating this new series by Steven Bird. Two pilots, Evan and Jason, are also preppers because they see the writing on the wall. They have a plan and Jason has a bug out location in Tennessee. The problem? They are stuck on an overnight layover in New York when coordinated terrorists attacks occur around the country. No plan survives first contact...the first hitch, a new flight attendant from their plane is stuck with them. She needs to get home to her young son, is just as unprepared as the rest of the country and equally as blind to what's really going on. How they all get home with those they pick up along the way makes for a dynamic storyline filled with great Prepper tips and Steven's signature knowledge of firearms. Already bought the next two.

We listened to this book on a long road trip and it made the miles fly by. It was a good story, realistic and well written. We found ourselves invested in the main characters and cheering them on. The story was a little predictable, but still enjoyable. We were especially impressed by the narration. The soothing voice brought us right into the story and kept us on the edge of our seats. We listen to a lot of audio books, and this narrator is one of the best we have heard. We were able to easily distinguish the characters by his subtle voice changes that were believable & not distracting. Great experience! We are looking forward to Volume 2!

Riveting! Incredible narrator - made the story come alive!

The narrator was okay, but just didn't capture me as well as a Kevin Pierce story. Great overall story though.

I like Kevin Pierce better as a narrator...
