Dieter Hess, an aged spy, is dead, and John Bachelor, his MI5 handler, is in deep, deep trouble. Death has revealed that the deceased had been keeping a secret second bank account - and there's only ever one reason a spy has a secret second bank account. A short, but very interesting and entertaining read! Just adding to the world of Slough House

A good story

Mick Herron as author and Gerard Doyle as narrator make this segment of the Slough House narrative a winning combination. Herron’s sly and witty characters are best enjoyed by those readers who have read Slough House. Gerard Doyle enhances the novella experience so much that I’d hate to be without his voice in my head! Highly recommended.

Excellent story and narration

Jackson Lamb is as sharp witted as ever! Slightly disappointed that River Cartwright only appears towards the end as a driver for Jackson.

Another link in a twisted chain.

definitely has the qualities and foundation of a much longer tale, but ends leaving the reader to complete the narrative. I also have to mention that the continuing character development is great. I don’t think I have ever run across a curmudgeon quite like jackson lamb.

great short story
