From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joan Johnston comes two classic stories of the unforgettable MEN OF BITTER CREEK.

Cale Landry
When THE MAN FROM WOLF CREEK leaves his secluded mountain refuge to seek revenge on the thief who robbed him, he never expected he’d end up taking home the wily old bandit’s gorgeous and spirited daughter Raven. But Cale will never get back what he lost, until he learns to trust in love.

Conn Benton
Conn Benton is shocked at the suggestion he should marry a Winthrop—especially that tall, redheaded Emaline—to end the feud between their families. He might marry her and bed her, but he has no intention of loving her. It takes a Yuletide miracle, THE CHRISTMAS BABY, to heal his vengeful heart.

Sometimes I need a “palate cleanser” in the stories I listen to. This tale was predictable since there were not have any great surprises. But the publication had a good narrator with a placid voice and a HEA. There was no preachy agenda, no overdone angst or drama, It was basically a slow burn romance with mature characters working out their problems. It hit the right spot for me.

I would like to point out that as a retired health care provider who has done Labor and Delivery, 8 hours for a first baby is not actually a “long” labor as stated for the FMC in the book but is considered quite normal in most cases. With my first baby, I labored for 70 hours needing nothing for pain on a Pitocin drip at 36 weeks due to toxemia. I finally agreed to a C/S since my labor arrested at 6 cms dilation. THAT was a long labor but the circumstances were unusual. I would hate to think that a reader in labor (in the future) worried that there was a problem because the labor lasted for 8 hours (especially with a first baby) based what they read in the book.

A nice historical western romance!
