I was laughing out loud! Performances were pitch perfect-
The Money Shot accurately portrayed the angst, pathos and absurdity of the film industry and even presages influenced culture.

Funny, literate, contemporary

LaBute let’s loose all his disdain for celebrity culture, L.A., Hollywood, actors, industry people, the culture of “showing” and being obnoxious about yourself, personal branding, smartphones & more with this script. It’s acerbic, intelligent, often hilarious, sometimes incredibly smart, & has his cruelty & gift for sharp dialogue running throughout in it. I’d have changed one major thing. I mean major. Because it’s too easy & pat & you know as soon as it’s proposed how it will play out. Other than that: it works. BUT that one thing does nearly ruin it. Despite a particularly juicy moment that comes from it. Performances across the board are simply great but I like Missy the best. Playing “dumb” is difficult & Ari Graynor is fantastic at it.

This was a captivating story from beginning to end. But it’s the cast that completely bends the story to their particular characters will;Amber Tamblyn was absolutely genius in my opinion. She was sharp as a tack and delivered her lines with a crushing combination of brutality and sweetness. But honestly , for all we know of Eric McCormack as a star, don’t ever forget he is an equally brilliant stage actor and this proves it.

Neil LaBute is great...this cast made him better

I really like Neil Labute... I think some of the finest screenplays and plays of the last 30 years have been written by the guy… he has some good lines in here… The Bing Crosby bit is a gem... but I I was disappointed because outside of the observation that actors can be narcissistic and aren't particularly bright, this play doesn't have much to say. That's pretty much a commonly held stereotype. Also that misogyny and hatred can hide under the veneer of polite conversation…He's done it better in other work.

I definitely appreciate his style of writing… reminiscent of Mamet, but unique and engaging on its own terms. His other work goes deeper and has more to say about human relationships. This felt like a missed opportunity.

Hollywood people are vapid and disgraceful... surprise, surprise
