From the New York Times bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Family Next Door with new novel Darling Girls out soon.

"Hepworth turns up the tension in her latest Australian-set domestic suspense novel. A masterful depiction... makes this a winner for fans of Liane Moriarty and Megan Abbott" Booklist (starred review)

Everyone in this family is hiding something.

You may get to choose your partner, but you don't get to choose your mother-in-law.

From the moment Lucy met Diana, she was kept at arm's length. Even after marrying Oliver, Lucy knew they'd never be close.

But who could fault Diana? A pillar of the community, an advocate for social justice, the matriarch of a loving family.

That was ten years ago. Now, Diana has been found dead. There is a suicide note, but the autopsy reveals foul play. And everyone in this family is hiding something . . .

A thrilling page-turner about that trickiest of relationships.

Really hooks you in fast and is very easy to digest- binged it in a day while doing the gardening.
Please note though- some tough struggles with fertility are used throughout without much sensitivity so a content warning to anyone who wants to avoid that.

Great page turner, but content warning for pregnancy struggles.

This story had me enthralled from the very beginning. A great insight into relationships that are so complicated and often misunderstood. Also life challenges that are more common than we realise. Totally addictive and I couldn’t stop. Sally is my new favourite author.
Beautifully read by a very talented Casey Withoos.

An amazing story.

This mother in law forgot the saying ‘charity begins at home’ and another worth noting ‘being of sound mind and body I have my money away while I was alive’.
Story about a privileged white woman who was raised in a wealthy home, got pregnant as a teenager, kept the baby and shortly after married a man who provided all her needs, she never had any real money worries BUT even after her marriage her wealthy parents weren’t reconciled (very unlikely, as wealthy people are experts at keeping up appearances) apparently she made her own children pay for her indiscretions, she was more than frugal with her own adult children, she was unreasonable and stingy. She spent more time and money on strangers. No wonder her only blood relative killed her. I don’t believe she would have been able to get end of life medication without formal diagnosis of a chronic untreatable disease.

horrible mother in law
