I was never bored while reading but found the book a bit thin. I found it short on Oxford lore and history.

This book held so much promise and was pretty enthralling for the first 2/3. Then it all spun out of control. The "twist" was absurd and ruined everything. It ended up being a chore to finish. I don't mind paranormal books but only when the author sows the seeds for it along the way and is upfront about what type of book it is. It felt like this author just decided to switch genres with only a third of the book left and without any paying any mind to the story they had formed thus far. It ended up being such a jarring change of pace that looking back it really feels like two different authors.

This book was so promising.
