New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille returns with another heart-pounding John Corey thriller—this time including Corey’s FBI agent wife Kate Mayfield… and their mission is to catch an elusive terrorist mastermind before he catches them.

Anti-Terrorist Task Force agent John Corey and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, have been posted overseas to Sana'a, Yemen-one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East. While there, they will be working with a small team to track down one of the masterminds behind the USS Cole bombing: a high-ranking Al Qaeda operative known as The Panther. Ruthless and elusive, he's wanted for multiple terrorist acts and murders-and the U.S. government is determined to bring him down, no matter the cost. As latecomers to a deadly game, John and Kate don't know the rules, the players, or the score. What they do know is that there is more to their assignment than meets the eye-and that the hunters are about to become the hunted.

Filled with breathtaking plot turns and told in John Corey's inimitable voice, The Panther is a brilliant depiction of one of the most treacherous countries in the world and raises disturbing questions about whether we can ever know who our enemies - or our allies - really are.

Good story. Great narration. The background music or
sound effects are kind of annoying though

Another good John Corey book

John Corey is the ultimate character to love. A comedic-smartass-ultimate-analytical-detective-superhero rolled into one believable procedural story with punch. Add the reader Scott Brick and it’s a home run. My second time listening to this one.

John Corey hits it again!!!

This one was a hard read but became an even harder read once the supposed good guys justified allowing an innocent person to be murdered to test a theory... and they get away with it.

At this point, John Corey is clearly just DeMille's obvious, kind of weird fantasy of the alpha male. I understand part of the fun is suspending disbelief, but at certain point you start to roll your eyes.

John Corey is hovering around, if not over 50 years old. Has a super model wife almost young enough to be his daughter who puts up with his nonsense for reasons never explained. He still has a twenty year old's libido, Is still stronger, faster, more agile than men younger than him, can eat like a pig and drink like a fish but stay in great shape without ever exercising. And is capable of insanely maniacal homicidal acts but can switch back to a normal human being like it had to effect on him at all, depending on what the plot needs. It's very silly and at times, annoying.

Much of the writing here is very gratuitous, and I do mean very, very gratuitous. You can skip past every other chapter - maybe every two chapters, and still get the full story. Half the book is just John Corey's irrelevant quips and sarcasm, ego, jealousy, double standards and appendage measuring.

The villains in this one either don't get nearly enough page time, leaving them flat and uninteresting. Or they're so obvious and there's no resolve, which is a continuous problem in this series. For example, there's absolutely zero talk of the cliff hanger the last book ended on. You can tell what the surprises are gonna be and eventually you're like, 'just get to the point already.'

DeMille sacrificed a heck of a lot of character development, plot, pages and words to just absolutely over indulge in what I can only assume is his personal fantasy of the alpha male being an absolute jerk for no reason other than he thinks it's funny.

This One is Weird
