Editorial reviews

Amanda Lohrey’s literary novel is based on a question confronted by many couples: What happens to a relationship when one person wants to have a child and his or her partner doesn’t?

Given a sultry performance by Tracey Callander, The Philosopher’s Doll concerns an academic, Lindsay Eynon, who is more interested in the secrets of the mind than producing offspring. Meanwhile, his baby-crazy wife, Kirsten, has become pregnant but is unsure when to tell him. To further complicate matters, Lindsay is pursued by an obsessive student named Sonia.

Callander draws listeners into this novel of ideas with her throaty voice and conversational tone.
