Is the Bible, the most influential book in world history, still relevant?

Why do people dismiss it as being irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things?

This explanation of the Book of Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Bible, will demonstrate how it remains profoundly relevant - both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life.

Do you doubt the existence of God because you think believing in God is irrational? This book will cause you to reexamine your doubts.

The title of this commentary is The Rational Bible because its approach is entirely reason-based. The listener is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. In Dennis Prager’s words, “If something I write is not rational, I have not done my job.”

The Rational Bible is the fruit of Prager’s forty years of teaching to people of every faith and no faith at all. In virtually every section, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world in general and to you on a personal level.

His goal: to change your mind - and, as a result, to change your life.

What an excellent book/series! As a devout Catholic I know that we have a poor reputation for memorizing, our even being familiar with, scripture. My favorite thing about the Bible, though, is the "notes". As I read, I can't help but think, "what did that mean?" or "how does this fit with that?" or "WHY do we care about how many pineapple shaped ornaments there were!?!?" For the New Testament there are a plethora or resources for such questions, but Old Testament resources are fewer. I only wish Dennis had time to rationalize the ENTIRE Old Testament instead of just the Torah! God bless him for his work, for his research, and for his furthering the Kingdom! To date I only own a paper copy of Genesis and audio copies of Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy, but I'm looking forward to owning all paper copies to eventually hand down to my children.

Thankful Catholic

For as difficult as it can be for the lay person to read through the Bible this series has served me three fold. The first is giving a read through so that it is easier to take in. The essays, explanations of translations, and other commentaries have helped me understand each book in the series much more than when I read them from my Bible.

The best part of this book to me was the expansion of my understanding of the morality in the Bible. The stories and laws are very forward thinking and promote justice for women, the liberty of slaves, the kindness to the stranger, protecting children....

No other text in history before them gave such protections as the Old Testament. This rational take on the books of the Bible highlight the mercy of God in the Old Testament which is often missed by western society.
