In the latest rollicking adventure in the Magic 2.0 series, it’s time for the teenagers to show the adults how wizardry really works.

Mattie and Brewster are normal, typical 16-year-old twins who live with their normal, boring parents: Martin and Gwen Banks. Normal and boring, that is, until the day their father's best friend shows up at their house - dressed in what appears to be a bathrobe.

The next thing Mattie and Brewster know, their parents are frozen like human statues in their living room, the guy in the bathrobe has vanished, and they need to find answers - fast.

The twins set off on a quest to discover the truth of their parents' lives. Along the way they find secrets, lies, magic, time travel, strange new friends, stranger new enemies, and a really weird dirigible (which, they're told repeatedly, is not a blimp). It is a twisted and bizarre trail that, they hope, will lead them to the man they blame for their parents' peril:

Phillip.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

The 4th and 5th book made it feel very repetitive, and focusing on the same character for so long was a bit disappointing, and that combined with the disappointment of the 5th book which felt more like the first half of a book made this change of perspective welcome And brightening. Also going into more detail about other forms of magic and the crazy plot twist made listening a fresh experience without making it feel as though you were reading a different series. Best book so far.

Scott Meyer really hit the ball out of the park with The Vexed Generation. This was my favorite Magic 2.0 book so far. If you were feeling like the series was starting to jump the shark after the last two books it’s now back on track. This is somewhat of a reboot or new start to the series as the main characters are Martin’s twin teenage children.

As the new characters are not familiar with the magic of the world we get to see things from fresh eyes. It almost beckons back to Martin’s experience from book 1. This isn’t a bad thing though as it’s what I really enjoyed about the earlier books in the series. We also get a few throwback scenes of the kids watching some of Martin’s earlier experiences which I really enjoyed.

Although the previous main characters have been regulated to side characters we still get to see what there up to as well as all the other side characters we know and love. I would have liked to have seen a little more of Jimmy’s character but maybe in next book. Overall I really enjoy the direction Meyer’s is taking the series and I look forward to the next book.

Luke Daniel’s narration on these books is superb. I hope he’s the narrator for the entire series.

Love the Meyer genre: fantasy in modern, everyday life. Nice twist to his series of Magic 2.0: The Next Generation. Story had pace, teens were rounded out characters. Would’ve liked to see them featured more in the “real” action rather than the adults sort of taking over the plot line, but that’s a small nit. Luke Daniels once again, a master class in audiobook narration. Such a beautiful timbre in his voice and he really infuses each character with unique personality. Of course, that rich baritone comes with one downside, which is that the female characters have rather deep alto voices, but we all work with what nature gave us, right? Nevertheless, another job well done.

Solid Scott Meyer book, usual brilliant Luke Daniels narration

The Magic 2.0 series is one that has its ups and downs — but this book harkens back to the original and puts an interesting twist on the master-apprentice story of Off to be the Wizard. The characters are phenomenal, the humor is amazing, and the story is a lot of fun! Any fan of Magic 2.0 or Scott Meyer needs to read this.

Fantastic addition to the series

The Magic 2.0 crew is back with some not quite grown up kids who don’t yet know about magic! The story Scott Meyer’s crafted was entertaining all the way through and Luke Daniels’ performance brought it to life!

He did it again!
