The WITSEC series complete boxed set contains four full length novels, Stay with Me, Play with Me, Gay with Me, and The Way of Us.

Kane Delancey is a special agent with the ATF and as such, he puts his life on the line every day. He’s dated a lot of women but the right one just hasn’t come along.

Luca Price is a humble manager for a popular chain of jewelry stores. Young and openly gay, Luca spends his nights in clubs having a ball with friends, without a care in the world.

Kane and Luca’s worlds collide while Kane is working an undercover assignment for the ATF and once he meets Luca, he finally figures out why that perfect woman has eluded his grasp.

When a crazed serial killer starts killing young gay men, Kane realizes Luca just might be in the monster’s crosshairs.

The stories blended well together but there were some minor details that just rubbed me the wrong way. I’m never a fan of women writing gay men’s love stories and this series reminded me of why. I felt like the language was at times overly superfluous; nobody I know says “pectoral muscles!”

There were many times where the author said in 10 words what could’ve been said in 3. The background and details were solid and I learned a lot about some law enforcement actions which made everything fit together nicely.

The sex scenes were overdone in my view. Sometimes you have to leave some things to the imagination. After listening to 3 books in succession, the very detailed sex acts by the fourth were just too much for me and I fast forwarded through most of them. All in all, if I were giving this a grade this would be a solid B. Less wordiness, less graphic sex and it would definitely have been a solid A. The narrator had a few flubs that I’m surprised no one caught. Luca’s became Lucases (Lucas’) which confused me the first time it happened and although I got used to it, it was still very grating.

Good plots. Writing was a bit on the girlie/corny side for the intimate scenes. And I still can’t forgive the author for missing one of the best comebacks of all time in Book 3 when his homophobic ex-girlfriend is trying to humiliate him with her hateful rant. Why, why, why didn’t Kane say “Well, hell, Alex. It’s probably dating you that made me gay.”

Interesting stories and plots; a little corny; definitely worth a listen, though.

This was a great series. Lots of suspense and surprising events. Books 2 and 4 were slow at times, the but plot was amazing. Great narration.

To the author: using the word “pussy” the way Luca did in book 4 is insulting. In the scene, it is used to imply inferiority and weakness. Misogyny needs to stop.

Suspenseful

Thought I’d give this author a try, mostly because Michael Dean is the narrator. This series did not disappoint. The character development was good, the story progression excellent. I especially liked the arc throughout the four books. I’ll check out more by this author.
