You’re going to love Todd.”
—Stephen King, Entertainment Weekly

The critically acclaimed creator of the Inspector Ian Rutledge and battlefield nurse Bess Crawford mystery series, Charles Todd now offers readers a bittersweet love story and romantic mystery that unfolds at Christmas during the dangerous opening days of World War I. The Walnut Tree is an unforgettable story of a woman who puts herself in the line of fire for the sake of wounded soldiers and falls deeply in love with a man who may be forbidden to her. For anyone who has fallen under the spell of Downton Abbey, and for all the fans of the British-set mysteries of Elizabeth George, Anne Perry, Ruth Rendell, Martha Grimes, and Jacqueline Winspear, The Walnut Tree is essential reading.

Beautifully written and narrated. Am glad to have found it through one of the book recommendation excerpts at the end of another book I had finished.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Walnut Tree to be better than the print version?

DId not read the print version, but I love to listen and to read Charles Todd novels.

What other book might you compare The Walnut Tree to and why?

A lot like the Bess Crawford series, Bess was even in this book. A little too much like Bess Crawford actually.

What does Fiona Hardingham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

That beautiful Scottish accent!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Hmmm, I always listen in my car, so that's hard to say.

Any additional comments?

Keep them coming, Charles Todd!!!

I liked the characters and the occasional return of Bess Crawford. The performance was fine for English accents but her French is deplorable.

Very interesting story lines

Loved Lady Elspeth and her desire to be of value despite or in spite of her class. Such a different point in time from our own and yet I felt each person's motivation was genuine and and I understood. My eyes have been opened a little wider in understanding just how difficult the war was in every conceivable way and how brave they all truly were.

Loved it!
