Bloomsbury presents Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.
Lethal. Loyal. Legendary.
Enter the world of Throne of Glass with the first book in the #1 bestselling series by Sarah J. Maas.
In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion.
Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.
Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that has captivated people worldwide.

"Celaena is as much an epic hero as Frodo or Jon Snow!" (New York Times best-selling author Tamora Pierce on the Throne of Glass series)

When compiling our list of the best fantasy listening out there, we immediately came up against the age-old question: Is this fantasy or science fiction? The distinction is not as clear as you may think. Dragons, elves, and wizards are definitely fantasy, but what about wizards that also fly space ships? (Looking at you, Star Wars.) For the sake of fantasy purity, the top 100 fantasy listens include the best audio works in all manner of fantasy subgenres.

There is somewhat of a love story but it doesn’t completely overwhelm the story either. There issss a Triangle but it’s fine.
The way that magic and the fights are depicted really excite me and when it’s being read aloud its really immersive and you almost feel like you’re on the sidelines or in the story when it’s happening.
The ONLY two things I struggled with is accepting that Celaena is actually an Assassin, because while she is a skilled fighter and she’s very smart, very sharp, she just seems like she more an opportunist than an actual assassin. Calaena gets caught slipping or lacking several times lol However I didn’t let it distract me from the overall story. If you tryna read about a strong heroine who isn’t boring and not always “smirking” this is what you looking for. The second thing is we get a POV from a character that I really did not care for and I feel like we could’ve gotten a POV from the King rather than them. I saw there’s more books though so the author might be setting something up. The performance was okay. I like how the VA portrayed different voices , just some of the diction of them talking and what was being said sometimes didn’t match the mood of the scenes. Overall I really like the book and I’m looking forward to read/listen to all the other books like a marathon lol I’m trying to see what the future holds for Calaena next!
Very refreshing
