A dead body in the trunk of a car. It's the Kansas City mob's signature.

So why is a member of Ellison's circle found shot to death in a sedan at the country club?

Did Baxter Phelps have ties to the mafia? Did they make him an offer he couldn't refuse? Is Baxter's widow Helen in danger?

As Ellison is drawn into a dangerous investigation, she can't help but think maybe this time Mother is right. She should mind her own business.

I read a lot of cozy mysteries and i have to say that this series, The Country Club Murders, are among the very best I've ever read. Julie Mulhern has created such a great character in Ellison-- a modern woman living in the 1960s/70s-- and has an amazing grasp of the world of upper class women in that time. The murders are all interesting, original and hard to guess. Setting the mysteries in a time before cell phones and computers makes them harder to solve and the circumstances more suspenseful. Her family is great -- i've even grown to like her mother in 19 books! LOL And her conversations with her the coffeemaker on her kitchen counter are the best. Really recommend these books!

Julie is the BEST!

This is the most fun cozy mystery series I have ever read. I might be a bit biased as the book is set in the 70's on the Plaza in KC, Missouri which I have fond memories of from being a kid in the 70's and visiting the Plaza several times each year. The landmark businesses mentioned in the stories are typically ones that I can remember and it is fun to go down memory lane with the stories. Add in the author has a freaking outstanding sense of humor that is woven into the each story and character quite delightfully. Make no mistake, serious murders and mysteries are woven in, but in a delightfully entertaining way. This series is one of my all time favorite to listen to as the narrator really brings Ellison and crew to life in a unique manner that enhances each of their personalities making them all the more realistic. I absolutely can't wait for the next book to be available on audio so I can giggle my way across Kansas City, the Plaza and the Country Club!

The most hilarious cozy mystery of all time!

The author maintains her strength when it comes to plot development, character development, and the use of humor alternatively with suspense to set the mood. this title introduces what I assume will be a recurring character in Frank who promises to bring a real richness to the mix if he is allowed to develop. this title was very much improved by the lack of emphasis on Francis Wofford.

Great series. I anticipate the next installment!
