When Darcy arrives at Netherfield with his friend Bingley, he is in a bad mood for an entirely different reason: his mistress of seven years, with whom he has fallen hopelessly in love, has abandoned him to marry a duke. If Darcy thought he was having a wretched Tuesday after visiting Diana, things suddenly become worse when he arrives at his uncle's townhouse only to discover the earl, who generally leads a very dissipated life, has suddenly become concerned for the future. Darcy's uncle reminds him that he needs to marry and provide an heir for the Pemberley Estate. His cousin, Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam, who had no plans to marry, finds himself in a similar boat, but without a paddle. His elder brother, the Viscount Stanley, has produced only daughters, so it may be up to Richard to sire the next earl. He now has the unenviable task of convincing a lady to marry a second son with no expectations. Temporarily escaping the debacle, the cousins accompany Darcy's friend Bingley to his newly leased estate in Hertfordshire so that Darcy can help his friend pursue his father's dream that his son become a member of the landed gentry. Fitzwilliam, who is more at home with business decisions, must navigate his way through the most important social decision of his life, with nearly disastrous consequences. A Pride and Prejudice variation that includes a prequel and forks at the Netherfield Ball. Suitable for mature readers. What a wonderful story, truly one of my favorites. Elizabeth as mistress of Pemberley really won me over. Finn's ending however made me the happiest. I about wept. Last of all, I'm in love with Colonel F. The sword's engraving says it all, perfect.

I read the book awhile ago and thought I would try the audiobook, because sometimes the virtual voice isn’t too terrible. This isn’t one of those times. There is a lot of emotions in this book and the voice is just too flat. I finished reading the book because I couldn’t stand to listen to it being mangled by the virtual voice. The book is mostly off canon, if that appeals, please read it - don’t listen to this.

I really didn’t expect a virtual voice book that was this long to be so good. Fun premise, emotional writing and well developed secondary and tertiary characters

the story pulled me in. Darcy is such a spoiled jerk! He only sees his needs and wants. Elizabeth is not given a choice on marriage. Most of their problems are due to a lack of communication. I did like Georgianna in this version. She is more lively and age appropriate.
The sexual aspect is explicit but not vulgar. It’s an open door bedroom.
I disliked the virtual voice, there is no real inflection. It’s like a story being told to you by a good reader that is not an actor.
The story did drag for me and I skipped chapters-I was able to figure out what he problems with out turning cake/rewinding.
I do recommend this variation.

Interesting and unique plot that I really enjoyed and couldn't wait to get back to. But... spoiler alerts coming up: Okay, it's about time a P&P variation author has Darcy in the bed of an older woman before he falls in love with EB. He's 28 yrs old, yet so many P&P V authors have him celibate all those years before EB. Nonsense! Young men in the "olden times", living in the upper classes, had sex with married/widowed/older women before marriage. That was the norm. Just plain creepy to have a drop-dead handsome, privileged young man "saving himself" for marriage, as in so many other variations. So Darcy's older-woman lover is a good detail in this story. But wait!! Another spoiler: his valet is gay, admiring Darcy's fine naked body... WTF! The valet is also in love with a Pemberley stable groom, and there's a former gay lover out there. Really? Why? As I kept reading, I got more and more convinced that the author of this P&P is a man for sure...a GAY man. The relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth lacks an authentic vibe for a story that's otherwise full of interesting detail--but then inauthentic detail about how a man and a woman who come to genuinely love each other would relate to each other. So I became ANGRY because the author could not portray a genuine, abiding love that grows between a man and woman. And this author gives Georgiana manly features... what!! And Elizabeth has an almost muscular athletic body...no, no, no!! She doesn't work out! She just does a lot of walking. No woman who loves P&P would do that to Georgiana and EB. And WORST detail that INFURIATED me...Spoiler...the author makes Mr, Bennet gay, too. So unnecessary, so just plain bizarre! Though a good read, this author, a supposed "Frederica", is, I am sure, a Frederick. No fair! Nonetheless, a compelling plot, not the usual, and much more literate than the usual P&P variation.
