For two months, Jamie Garland had fallen in love... with a lie. Cade Santerre was every woman's fantasy - until the mask came off in a scandal that left Jamie shattered.

Cade had pretended to be someone he wasn't. Worse, he'd used her in his elaborate attempt to catch a man he believed was a crook and a swindler. Though Cade's suspect had escaped, Cade was still around - raw, masculine, overwhelming. He had some unfinished business with the man who had conned his innocent sister, and he needed Jamie's help. But Jamie had some unfinished business, as well: to find out if the man she'd fallen in love with really existed.

Female character was weak. Male character bordered on abusive with his possessiveness. I love JAK, but didn’t like this book at all.

Predictable

My least favorite Krentz heroine. She came off as rather not too smart , not innocent. Still a good story.

Nice and Short

Naive, obstinate, petulant, immature women masking it as ‘strength’ at the very risk of their own safety and life in some attempt at ‘self preservation’ seriously disappoint me. It’s possible to display inner strength without being impetuous.

I struggled through the first half of the book, but had to stop. There wasn’t much of a storyline, aside from Jamie’s continuous, annoying, refusal to believe Cade didn’t betray her. I got so tired of it, I couldn’t listen to the rest. Additionally, the narrator did some of Cade’s voice okay, but the personal intimate conversations were stilted, a little sleazy, and actually made me cringe. I even checked to make sure I was reading JAK!

I’m going back to Smoke in Mirrors, Deep Waters, Absolutely, Positively, Family Man, etc. Those are prime JAK!

I’m a huge JAK fan, but....
