Wife to Chuza, King Herod's chief steward, Joanna lives a life of luxury in the city of Sepphoris, the jewel of the Galilee. Yet not even the finest doctors can restore health to her lungs, which have ailed her since childhood. But Joanna has heard talk of a local healer, and the rumors intrigue her. She has only once seen this Jesus of Nazareth from a distance, thronged by mobs proclaiming his latest miracle. His mother is Joanna's own cousin Mary, whose family disowned Joanna for forsaking Jewish law in favor of Roman customs. Intending to ask her estranged cousin to arrange a meeting with her son, Joanna sets off on the dusty road to Nazareth.

Jesus indeed has the power to heal Joanna's body, but it is her soul that blossoms through her friendship with Mary, and as one of Jesus' disciples. But as word of Jesus' miracles reach Herod's court and the ruler becomes increasingly wary of his fame among the people, intrigue, treachery, and murder cast shadows onto Joanna's new path, changing her life forever.

Overall the story was intriguing and cute. A creative perspective concerning women during the life of Jesus.

Cute story

This is a tender retelling of Messiah, HIS life, healings and death and HIS mother's life through her cousin Joanna's eyes. Johanna was the wife of Khusa, Herod Antipas' chief steward. The political machinations, the practicalities of daily life and realistic giving. Narrator's voice shows the tenderness of heart this book details, perfectly. Mary/Miryam is shown as the woman and mother she really was. Well worth the read.

Very good depiction of subject matter!
I referenced each Bible chapter and verses. Helped me sympathize with the main character.

I enjoyed this fictionalized biblical story!

This was an enjoyable book, but I wished it had been a little deeper. I felt like I didn't really know the characters very well, not even the main character. I guess I was just expecting a little more. Still, it is a neat concept to tell a somewhat fictional story based on pieces from the Bible. My last two comments: I didn't find the narrator very enjoyable. And the small clips of music were mildly annoying.

Enjoyable but...
