Movie star 101: A smile hides all pain.

Quellcrist King has been playing a part his entire life. The more famous he becomes, the more he hides. The only person he ever let see the real him rose with him from nothing to the very top.

They were the king and queen of Hollywood - and then she wanted a divorce. The only way to survive his depression is to bury himself in work. If he can be a character, maybe he won't have to remember himself. A gay role can't be any different than playing a straight one, can it?

But instead of finding solace in the character, he finds it in his costar. Hale becomes his best friend, his lifeline, the light in his darkness. Quell is forced to examine everything he thought he knew about himself while filming intimate scenes with Hale that feel more real than anything ever has before.

He's lived his entire life following the script. What would life be like unscripted?

Contains mature themes.

The chemistry between the two leads were absolutely amazing. I loved hearing both leads perspectives, it was truly a sexy and beautiful story.

It is always good to see perspectives of a Hollywood romance come to life through a book

I’m kinda disappointed with this story. I was frustrated with quellcrist. He just let his ex and his fear drive him through this whole book. The romance wasn’t as hot but they were dealing with fear. It just didn’t do it for me in MHO. The narration sucked. Why bring in John solo? He’s horrible and Joel Leslie could’ve carried this book alone as he always did. So yeah it was a disappointment for me. I guess I’m discouraged as nobody is coming up with new original story’s. They’re all the same repetitive storylines. It’s either an actor,a body guard,a nanny,a fake boyfriend for a wedding , a billionaire , shape shifters, vampires ......etc. I guess I’m going through a real book funk waiting for someone with something incredible and new. Maybe historical m/m???

Ehh. Just ok

Both narrators did an amazing job bringing
this book to life.
I’ve never read anything from this author and never read a book like this. I usually don’t like slow burn I usually get bored and frustrated. I did not want to put this book down! I was interested from page one. I loved the two characters, they become friends first, it did take a while for them to get together. Right when I was starting to get restless they finally admitted wanting each other. This book was amazing keeps you interested the entire way, I do wish it was longer since the first 74% of the book is built up to then coming together. I feel there wasn’t enough of them as a couple. But there is a second book out and I can’t wait to see where there story takes them.

Besides the very late third act breakup that seemed contrived, a plot point to mark off a checklist rather than a natural evolution of the story, I really enjoyed this book.

The writing and narration are both good. I love the way attraction grows into relationship. Mental health struggles are handled with sensitivity and in a way that seems true to life. These characters and their relationship will stick with me beyond the last page of their story.

Ugh, 3rd act breakup
