For students who like to have history come alive, this book is worth reading (listening to.) It's a fictionalized account of events leading up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911. It also brings to life social issues of the day: workers' rights, factory conditions, immigrants' lives, social class differences, women's rights.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and, as a high school world history teacher, let me just say that this book is fabulous. It is such a beautiful convergence of gender & socioeconomic issues, while also addressing immigration and workers rights problems of the period. The characters are realistic and endearing and the history is accurate and engaging. Definitely worth your time!
