Dr. Coleman delivers not only metaphoric and in-depth descriptions of the various places, he elaborates on the nuances and delightful centuries-old culture and traditions as well.
For example, one of the most hilarious traditions is the Shrovetide football match in Ashbourne.
My mom and I were in the Orkney Islands one year when we heard of the same game! I had imagined people getting trampled or having the inability to move like at a Rolling Stones Concert.
I asked the man describing this funny and absurd craziness to us, what happens if a resident moves there and wasn’t born in the hills or by the sea (hills=“Uppies;” sea=“Downies).”
He matter of factly stated, and without hesitation, that if you came by air, you were, of course, an Uppie, and that if you came by sea, you were a Downie.
As usual, I learned many new things from Dr. Coleman, in particular, that electronic devices, TV’s, phones, I-Pads etc., all Eavesdrop all the time unless they are completely turned off, unplugged or they are in Airplane Mode. Ugh!😱🤔🤬
