In Walden & Civil Disobedience, Henry David Thoreau invites us into his world of quiet reflection and moral courage. Walden chronicles his two-year experiment in simple living beside Walden Pond, where he sought independence from materialism and a deeper connection with nature. With vivid observations and timeless wisdom, Thoreau explores themes of solitude, self-reliance, and the true meaning of wealth. In the companion essay Civil Disobedience, he turns from the woods to society, making a passionate case for the individual’s duty to resist unjust laws through peaceful protest. Together, these works form a cornerstone of American thought—at once a meditation on living deliberately and a call to conscience. Narrated by Will Stauff with clarity and warmth, this audiobook brings Thoreau’s enduring insights to life for a modern audience.

Actually I enjoyed Thoreau’s bellyaching about the government and how one should live their life. It’s just that once he starts speaking and waxing poetic in Latin the book becomes a bit tedious for my taste. Overall the book is an exercise in patience but if you make it through you’ll probably feel alright about it. Haha.

So much Latin, so little story
