War is only the beginning. Duke never set out to be a king—only to protect his own. Leading the Twice Blessed Legion, he marches to war against the undead tyrant Chopie, the Lich King. Battles rage, and betrayals lurk in the shadows, but through sheer will and the power he has gathered, Duke emerges victorious. His reward? A throne he never sought. The price? Incalculable.

But ruling is nothing like war. As the newly crowned king, Duke finds himself ruling over a depleted nation. How do you rebuild from ruins? Duke turns to his dungeons for the resources to rebuild his kingdom and sharpen his warriors. But every delve reveals more than treasure. Beneath the stone and blood, a far greater game is being played. The Twin Entities watch from beyond, but they are not alone on the Cosmic Stage. What price will the Overmind exact to break Duke free of their control? War made him a king. Dungeons made him a legend. But who will he be when the Entities are done with him?

Story: Great continuation from book 1, the stakes escalated quickly and took a turn when the Over Mind stepped in, the last dungeon was a bit tedious but that new ability of Dukes was totally worth it!.. at a terrible cost though. - (Definitely save for an "Oh shit!" moment.) 4.5/5

Narrator: As usual, James does a great job of bringing the characters to life, putting emotion and life into every word. 5/5

Flaws: Although Duke is getting stronger, I find it a bit silly that he has almost 0 melee skills and his logical evaluation of situations are full of rookie mistakes, given his previous life. - but I suppose the entire series would be half a book long if that were the case. 4.5/5

9/10 - If I had the time to actually read books rather than listen to audio books, I'd gladly buy these in physical copies.

War and Dungeons

Duke and his friends have stopped the invasion, but King Chopie is still a threat. Not only to Duke, but to everyone living in the area. Duke must lean into the main thing that gives him strength, his dungeon. Using this, he can change the entire world.

This was a really fun Isekai litrpg! It has a book 1 recap , and that is always appreciated. The dungeon mechanics are really interesting. It was great that it had such a spotlight in this book and it looks like even more to come. James Cheatham does a great job narrating as always!

I enjoyed this story, and liked the addition of the ant colony. Was interesting to see how that developed. Can’t wait for the next book. Btw, what’s happening with that system?? lol!

Great addition.

The emotional depth of Duke and the acknowledgment of person flaws and the path to overcome them really struck home with me. Being forced into a corner and having to fight your way out doesn’t define you as a person.

Duke’s growth explodes and he faces even greater challenges. The pacing is great and he’s always forming new allies and righting wrongs across the kingdom. Excited about the setup for book 3!

Awesome
