Munich, 1938. Evelyn Brand is an American foreign correspondent as determined to prove her worth in a male-dominated profession as she is to expose the growing tyranny in Nazi Germany. To do so, she must walk a thin line. If she offends the government, she could be expelled from the country - or worse. If she fails to truthfully report on major stories, she'll never be able to give a voice to the oppressed - and wake up the folks back home.

In another part of the city, American graduate student Peter Lang is working on his PhD in German. Disillusioned with the chaos in the world due to the Great Depression, he is impressed with the prosperity and order of German society. But when the brutality of the regime hits close, he discovers a far better way to use his contacts within the Nazi party - to feed information to the shrewd reporter he can't get off his mind.

This electric stand-alone novel from fan-favorite Sarah Sundin puts you right at the intersection of pulse-pounding suspense and heart-stopping romance.

One of my favorite books. I like it very much. I liked the way grace and love were shown.

The story is well done and brings a fresh perspective on the trials of not only Jews but sympathetic people helping them and the costs and risks they faced. It gets quite intense at times to think about. The one drawback of this story is the narrator. The male voices seem like caricatures especially when employing an accent (Chicago, German, etc.), but the nails on the chalkboard way the author pronounced certain words became worse as the story went. I realize this is a nit pick point but her use of “yoo” in words like news (nyoos), suit (syoot), etc. made it sound very affected and out of place. Overall a great listen if you don’t let the nits get to you.

Great perspective for WWII era novel

Excellent story rich in history, philosophy, understanding, and motivation. Well-written and emotional. Loved it!

Erin Moon does a terrific job with many characters and many different accents! There were a couple of characters' voices that were odd, but mostly she did so well that it didn’t really matter. She took a good manuscript and brought it to life!

Bravo

The story made you feel like you were in the midst of the storm and the history was so insightful. The injustice that was wrought against the victims and the inhuman cruelty was unbelievable.

Rich in history and exciting
