As far as Jennifer can remember, her father was abusive but her mother wasn’t always. She remembers a time when she felt loved by her mother. All that changed when Jennifer was 11. Her mother snapped and became a monster like her father was. Then they turned on her. Jennifer fought to become who she wanted to be, and not who her parents were trying to make her be. She refused to allow the torture change her, like it changed her mother. This is the story of Jennifer’s past, how she got through it, and how she survived it all.

It was great. The author wrote the book in her own voice, so people would understand where she came from, and what she accomplished. An amazing story of triumph! Thank you for sharing your story. It is inspiring someone could stay so positive through such horror.

I love how strong she is. Great read/listen over all. I finished it in one day.

I watched the documentary about these children, and was touched when Jennifer and Jordan shared their story. This is not a "tell all" book. Jennifer is so respectful to herself and her family in telling only the experiences she is comfortable sharing and only her side of the story in this book. She does reveal some stories about her upbringing, however I appreciate the great emphasis on how she was able to endure, persevere, and survive the torture. It's difficult enough to know she was abused, but it is more hopeful and inspiring to hear how she was able to do so with such great fortitude.

In my opinion Ms. Turpin did a better job writing her story than what she gives herself credit for. I would have appreciated her to give more details on what all she had to go through in order to transition herself into becoming a normal average person who fits into the mold of society. It couldn't have been easy for her. Needing to learn how to do so many new things all in one huge blow had to be overwhelming. To be in her early thirties and she had never experienced any area of freedom to include having any choices. This is one of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever read! Thank God for their rescuers!

Real life can be more shocking than fiction could ever hope to be.

This book was like sitting down with the author herself and listening to her tell her life’s story from her heart, with all of the fears, and flaws and joy and love that is normally edited out and diluted. This book is strong and bold and no nonsense. She is a survivor and she is telling it from her perspective, and it shows in every word.

A True Triumph
