Lou has always taken second place to her beautiful spoiled sister, Gloria. Her only defence against the pain of losing Peter to Gloria and her father's mysterious rejection of her is to dedicate herself to her painting. She is forced to stand by as Peter struggles to cope with a failing business and his new erratic and spendthrift wife.
