The First World War was supposed to be the war that ended all wars, hence the name: the Great War.

The Great War was off to a bad start from the German perspective. The plan was to fend off France and Russia while focusing on the main purpose, helping Austria-Hungary deal with Serbia.

The loss of life in the Great War was immense.

Would you try another book from Scott S. F. Meaker and/or Glenn Koster, Jr.?

No.

Would you ever listen to anything by Scott S. F. Meaker again?

That's a little harsh. But not of this nature - a hyper-telescoped history. Cramming WWWI into 39 minutes was either an idea of genius or of foolishness. Alas, the second.

How could the performance have been better?

When you are going to be reading/discussing WWI, you have to know how to pronounce Schlieffen, Moltke, Crimea.

What character would you cut from World War One: A Concise History?

The author.

Any additional comments?

Very likely, this idea seemed like an inspiration in an editorial conference. It wasn't.

An unsuccessful effort

So many facts, sooooo few there for me, and then I realized that this was for everyone who DIDN'T take AP European History could want...... a wonderful synopsis of the most needed facts... actually better done than my final essay!! Enjoy!!

Useful to the next generation!
