It's the most wonderful time of the year—for everyone except Starr Lewis.

As if going home for the holidays jobless and single wasn't bad enough, she's dragged into a holiday season full of activities leading up to her sister's uber-romantic Christmas Eve wedding—to Starr's ex-boyfriend. But when her brother's best friend, Waylon Emmerson, attends their family Thanksgiving, she starts to wonder if maybe coming home for Christmas isn't so bad after all.

As Starr finds the perfect distraction in helping Waylon make over his late mother's Christmas shop, the most wonderful time of the year works its magic and the spark between them grows. But with the holidays fast approaching, Starr must decide what she wants out of life after the gifts are unwrapped and the ornaments are put away—to go back to New York City or to open her heart to a love that will last beyond Christmas Day?

I enjoyed the perspective and way that both characters taught Gods direction for their lives. It’s a pure example of Gods love for us!

Heartfelt Love Story

This holiday read had all the ingredients of a memorable Christmas romance. Starr is a fun, sassy heroine returning home with emotional baggage and unresolved family wounds. Enter Waylon—her brother’s childhood best friend—now grown, kind, and ready to love her wholly. The twist? Her ex-boyfriend is marrying her sister on Christmas Eve. Messy doesn’t even begin to cover it. But we were on board for the hot mess express, until we weren’t.

The romance was chef’s kiss, but the family drama was infuriating. Angel, the sister who’s far from her namesake, was manipulative and entitled, enabled by parents who never held her accountable or acknowledged Starr’s pain. Even the resolution fell on Starr’s shoulders, forcing her to repair what she didn’t break. The mother, especially, was clueless and self-centered—an epic no. (How are you going to invite yourself on your grown daughter’s date? Lady, please.)

While the faith-based elements were appreciated, they felt abruptly introduced and ultimately overused, becoming a justification for avoiding accountability rather than promoting true healing. Forgiveness shouldn’t require being a punching bag.

Ultimately, the love story carried the book, because the family dynamic completely derailed the holiday spirit.

Christmas Love, Yes! Family Love, No!

I enjoyed this book. It was non stop from beginning to end. First with Starr returning home after losing her job. To dealing with her family and her sister marrying her ex. To spending time with her brothers best friend. Every chapter kept me waiting for the next ball to drop. This was a great read.

A cute book! The ending was a bit contrived but I still had a wonderful time listening to this book.
