My name is Penny Mulligan and my life is a mess.

After a disastrous marriage that left me with three perfect, rowdy boys and an ex-husband whose middle name might as well be Trouble, I’ve got more than enough testosterone in my life. I’m absolutely not getting involved with anyone.

Besides, at the end of the day when I collapse into bed, I’m too exhausted to think sexy thoughts. Except maybe about the one man who makes my life just a little easier…Mr. Wednesday, a.k.a. Dillon Henry.

Handsome, charming, thoughtful—the man is fantasy material.

And not just because he brings me my favorite coffee every Wednesday when he meets with my boss.

I’ll be ready to date again…someday…maybe after my boys are in college and I finally have the energy to think about myself. For now, I’m content to stick to my late-night fantasies about a certain coffee-bringing, suit-wearing flirt.

At least, that’s what I tell myself until Dillon Freaking Henry shows up on my doorstep in my hometown, demanding that I let him out of the friend zone.

He’s not intimidated by the fact that I’m a package deal or that my calendar is chaos or that my ex is a monumental pain in the…neck. Nope. Dillon is determined to change my mind.

Part of me almost hopes he can.

This story is a perfect example of finding family. Sometimes the family you are born to are not good people, and sometimes the people you meet are the best. Dillon’s life from a young age exemplifies that and he is able to show Penny and her sons how to overcome a bad husband/father and trust other people who love and want them.

Penny taking care of Eddie’s children is another good example of found family.

Beautiful story and listening to it on audiobook that was beautifully narrated made this experience very emotional.

Exemplifies the types of love that exist

This was such a powerful story about a single mom bearing it all and the man who will do everything to fight with her! Dylan was so, so patient and kind. He played a really long game for this woman who was equal parts strong and afraid to lean on anyone. The way Dylan fought for her boys and her was astonishing! And that bonus epilogue! Talk about a teaser!

The most patient man ever!

Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais are 2 of my top favorite narrators. Well done!

There are not enough STARS available to rate this book as highly as I want to rate it.

Avery Maxwell is a Queen of Storytelling - and this is not just her best book (and they are ALL excellent) - it is one of the best stories I've ever had the pleasure to read.

Dillon Henry has been in love with Penny Mulligan for 3 years. She's his Wednesday girl, and he's her Mr Wednesday. Penny's probably the only one who doesn't recognize Dillon's feelings for her - but her personal life is in disarray. She spends all her time caring for her 3 boys as well as somehow managing to end up as primary caregiver for her alcoholic ex-husband's 2 little girls.

Dillon has spent his life scarred due to his upbringing by his alcoholic father. He's not living so much as he is existing. He wants his life to have a purpose, and thanks to the not-so-subtle interference by his best friends, he finds it in Chance Lake.

The love in this book is pervasive (in the best way), ever-present. The spicy scenes are extra spicy, but there is love there too, in every breath, every touch, every word.

Dillon is EVERYTHING. He's got past issues, but none of that affects what he's learned about owning his own life, his own heart. He has the BEST heart.

There's drama - but it's all about others - no lying, no cheating, no misunderstandings between our two main characters. Just dealing with life and whatever it takes to get to one of the best Happy Ever Afters I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

I'm off to start my re-read of Avery's back catalog (been there, done that, doing it again) so I can pay special attention to Dillon and Penny past. Then I'll re-read D&P present/future.

TEN STARS because this book deserves it.

Great story line

Storyline is about a single mother of three boys. She lives out in a small town but drives in to work a city job as a secretary. Her bosses friend comes in every Wednesday for meetings and brings her coffee. They both like each other and when he ask her out. She shoots him down. More than a few times. Her life is crazy busy with kids and abusive ex husband. The guy will not give up and wants her to give into him so her can love her and the kids.

So the baseline story is great. She is a tough mom who does not give up. He is a love sick man who believes in a life with her. They go through some trials in the story. The characters are not bad. Really great in most ways.
The one big thing that lost me. The book drags on and on. At points in the story, felt like not much was happening. Or more like they kept going back to the same issue rather than show progress. Or Really slow progress. But the story is great but I felt like it could have been wrapped up sooner and it would still be awesome. Add in some twist and turns to the story to have you guessing then it be the best.
That is just my feelings on it. I like a book with some action parts to get my blood going. Have me on the edge of my seat. The story was sweet. Little steam. But a good book. Just not my cup of tea.
Narrators did great job.

Good but not my cup of tea
