It reads like a junior high school level of writing. It’s like the Goosebumps version of zombie apocalypse. At least 1/3rd of the descriptions and narratives could be cut out. There is a lot of empty passages here. That being said, I think it has potential for something really exciting if they can cut out the excess fat and make it more action packed. The narrator also sounds like he’s bored and falling asleep.

I could debate the details but that would require too much energy.

The narration is literally just a guy reading the book and doesn’t merit a “performed by” byline. His voice isn’t unpleasant so it’s tolerable, but definitely not a performance.

Maybe I’m spoiled by better Dead stories but there doesn’t seem to be any point to any of the scenarios here. And the narrator, the long “a” pronunciation, Yeesh…. Had enough after a couple hours.

I was so disappointed when this book ended. RS Merritt is a master of this craft, and I'm stoked to have found this series!

Truthfully the premise of this story was decent. It just kinda of goes on and on, not as descriptive about the characters or their environments. But all in all I would buy the next book in the series. The narrator did all of the characters in the same voice and that was my biggest dislike.
