Saga Public Enemy hófst með látum. Fyrsta platan Yo! Bum Rush the Snow kom út 1987 og kjölfarið kom út meistarastykkið It takes a Nation of Million to Hold Us Back. Hornsteinar í hipp hopp sögunni. Síðan fylgdi hvert meistarverkið í kjölfarið. Fimm neglur í röð sem gerðu Public Enemy að einni mikilævægustu og stærstu hipp hopp sveit sögunnar. En Public Enemy gerði annað og meira. Public Enemy var rödd. Mikilvæg rödd svartra, fátækra. Eitt risastórt andóf. Aggressív, hávær og sprúðlandi andstaða gegn kúgun og óréttæti.
