Episode 11: After Closing (Part One)

A routine store opening. A locked door. And a crime scene that doesn’t fully add up.

Welcome back to Dead Giveaway, the murder mystery podcast where every detail matters—and nothing is ever as simple as it seems.

In this episode, Billy walks through a fictionalized case set just outside Red Wing, where employees arriving to open an outdoor retail store make an unexpected discovery.

Inside Summit Trail Outfitters, nothing appears disturbed at first glance. No forced entry. No sign of a break-in. But in the back of the store, one employee is found alive—restrained and disoriented—while another is located nearby, having suffered a prolonged and violent attack.

According to the only surviving witness, two unknown men entered the store after closing and carried out the assault before disappearing.

But as investigators begin to examine the scene, several details don’t line up:

• Footwear impressions appear inside the store—but don’t lead in or out
• The level of violence suggests time, not a quick encounter
• The building shows no signs of forced entry
• And both employees weren’t supposed to be there in the first place

As the timeline is reconstructed, additional layers begin to emerge—prior conflicts, after-hours access, and individuals connected to the store who can’t fully account for their movements that night.

What starts as a possible break-in begins to shift into something more controlled.

Something closer.

And possibly… something internal.
