Whether you're new or have been journeying with us from the start, it's a joy to read, pray, and grow alongside you on this 102nd day through the Bible. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's an upside down world. Paul is being lowered in a basket through a hole in the wall outside of the city, and as he's being lowered, God is lifting him up. We are being invited into an upside down world—a world where those who are lowered down are, in God's mysterious way, being lifted up, while those who lift themselves up are being lowered from within. Paul, in his letter, briefly recounts his own elevated days, that he was, as he says, like those super apostles. But Paul wants us to see that this outward elevation, this status, did nothing for his soul. In fact, while outwardly ascending, he was descending on the inside. Paul tells us his defining moments with God weren't in highlights of status or achievement, but rather in the deep descents—when he was accused, scorned, whipped, stoned, shipwrecked, left hungry and alone. It was there, in the moments of his greatest lowering, like when he was being let down in a basket outside the city, that God's presence was most real and God's strength most evident. The lowering did not defeat him; instead, it was the place where he experienced God's intimate love. God does his deepest work in our lowering. The world may tell us differently, and even super apostles may try to convince us the way up is always up—but we are reminded: See God in the lowering. Experience the fellowship of his suffering. There—in struggle, in humility, in weakness—he is faithful to bring about his good purposes in all our circumstances. And that is the prayer for my own soul today: that I will participate with God in faith, even in the lowering. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Saul had the stature of a king, but he didn't feel like it. Not on the inside, not in his heart. Others saw his physical stature, but God was looking at his heart. The people wanted a king, but God wanted a heart. So when the Spirit of God came upon Saul, the Scriptures tell us that that's what God did—he changed his heart. Saul's part was simply to say yes to this gift of life, to begin to see himself for who he now was. He was chosen. He was a leader. He was God's anointed king. But deep down, there were things that kept him from truly embracing who God said he was. He felt like an imposter. He hid in the baggage, fleeing from all of it. Saul couldn't see it. There was a part of him that worked against himself and who he really was. He was tortured with internal contradictions, and his life was marked by anguish. Things were always complicated for Saul, but the life he had been awakened to wasn't complicated. It was simple. It didn't require him to be tortured and anguished. It simply required him to say yes to God. Thank you, God. I invite you to live your life through me today. God, whatever that life may entail—when a person does that, they begin to live like a king. And it simply requires a yes to the new thing that God has done, to the new heart. A heart that would simply trust, a heart that would be free. God is offering all of us something very simple today. Who you really are is hidden with God in Christ. You are who he says you are. You don't need to power up. You don't need to bluster or fake your way through to live up to the expectations of others. You can simply rest in him. You can say yes and thank you. You can choose to believe. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul today. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. He wants to inspire us to live like good, cheerful farmers. Farmers aren't necessarily extravagant, but there is an extravagant heart. That is true of many of the farmers I've known. Maybe it's because they know that it's God who provides the seed. And from that seed comes their bread. We, like them, need to see that it is God who is the source of all that we have, right down to the very seed. It all comes from Him. He's the one who gives it, and he's the one who increases it. Remember that the crop that you receive will be in proportion to the seed that has been sown. If you're going to sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly. If you sow generously, you will reap generously. These are basic, fundamental truths in order for us to become good and cheerful farmers. So let's remember that it's all his, right down to the very last seed. Therefore, let us sow generously into the lives of others. Those in need, those that need encouragement, those that are out in the field working. And if we do, we will be blessed both to be able to continue in this gift of generosity, but also with the abundance of a full heart that comes from participating with God's generous heart for the whole world. And that, my friend, is exciting. It really is better to give than to receive. May God help us to be good and cheerful farmers. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Christ became poor so that by his poverty he could make you rich. Jesus took our poverty upon Himself in order to bestow on us his riches of sonship. That makes you wealthy, that makes you blessed, that makes you His. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because you are united with Christ. These are heavenly riches. But these spiritual riches work their way into our physical lives. They free us up to live generous lives here right now. And to the extent that we truly understand this will result in generous hearted living. Paul wants us to follow through with the generosity that was born in our hearts. He doesn't want us to stall out. He wants us to finish whatever it is that God inspired you to do. Maybe it's offering a meal to someone who's sick, spending time with someone who really needs it, giving financially to someone in need, helping to advance the cause of the gospel, as was the case of this particular passage. Whatever it is, don't stall out. Finish what God has inspired you to do. Live out your generous life because you are rich and your spiritual wealth comes from Him. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Life is what we all want. Hannah wants a child. She's a childless mother, and she longs for life. We see this story time and time again throughout the Bible—Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Samson's mother, Hannah, Micah, and Elizabeth. All of these women experienced the ache of longing for life. They wanted children. They wanted life. And, truthfully, isn't that what we all want? We're made for it. We are creatures who yearn deeply for life—real life, a life with meaning, hope, and fulfillment. And just like them, we cry out. Sometimes our cries are desperate, sometimes silent, sometimes shaped into prayers, sometimes only sighs. But God hears. He listens to the longing in our hearts. God, in His great love, makes a way for us to experience the life that we desire. That's what we see over and over again in the scriptures. Jesus tells us he has come so that we might have life, and have it abundant. This is his invitation—to bring our cries, our hopes, our very selves to him. He alone is our source. When we call out, he hears us, and from his fullness, we receive the life he's designed for us. Let's be sure to bring every longing to him. Let's begin this new day with faith, gratitude, and the assurance that you are loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Bitterness and dead ends, tragedy and loss – at first, that's what the Book of Ruth looks like. Naomi's story is marked by famine, exile, death; so much so that she insists on being called Mara, meaning "bitter" – a name reflecting what she believes to be her story: one of cruel, relentless loss. Maybe some of you feel the same way about your own life after these past few years. Hardships, loss, displacement, even a sense of exile – it's easy to let bitterness take root, piecing together our stories and finding only pain. But Ruth teaches us something vital. When we respond in faith to God, as Ruth did, the dead ends become doorways. Her story, begun in bitterness, unfolds into a love story with eternal consequences. Ruth, a Gentile, chooses Naomi's God – even after Naomi herself has given up hope. And through this love, a kinsman Redeemer is born, the grandfather of King David. From David's line, the Redeemer of the world: Jesus himself, the kinsman Redeemer for all humanity. Ruth's faith shapes the future. When we respond like Ruth, faith makes possible the discovery that God has always been at work in our story – even if it doesn't look like it now. God turns tragedy into redemption, loss into new beginnings. Bitterness isn't the final word. God is shaping your story even amidst heartbreak. I know it's hard to see sometimes. Paul says, "Christ died for everyone," and then presses further: "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting people's sins against them." This is astonishing news, cosmic in scope and beautiful in its reach. On the cross, Christ did something so profound—he undid what Adam had done, and now, in him, all are made new. For Paul, this message is not just worth sharing—it's a "fearful responsibility." He's been entrusted with being an ambassador of what God has accomplished for the entire world. The old ways of seeing people—judging, dividing, excluding—have been swept away. Now Paul recognizes that all have been included in the embrace of God, even if they don't know it yet. He pleads: "Come back to God. Look, behold, see what he has done for you!" The reconciling work of Christ is not distant or theoretical—it is deeply personal, life-changing, and world-altering. When we catch even a glimpse of the magnitude of what God has done—the height, the width, the depth—it reshapes the landscape of our hearts. It fills us with awe, compassion, and longing for others to step into the fullness of God's love. This is a prayer for vision and understanding, to see as Paul sees, to grasp just a bit more the wonder of God in Christ for all. All three point, ultimately, to Christ within us. Our weakness, our vulnerability, is the stage for God's incomparable power. Jesus is the treasure that lives and shines within these jars of clay, and as Paul urges, we are called to fix our eyes on him. When we read troubling Old Testament stories—stories that make us question the character of God—we must remember that sometimes what we say about God is more a reflection of our own hearts than his. The darkness and evil we wrestle with are not left unresolved; God has not abandoned us in confusion. In the face of Jesus, God's character is made perfectly clear. There is no shadowy figure behind the face of Jesus—what we see is love and light, the exact representation of the heart of God. This light now shines in our hearts, so we can know the glory of God as seen in Christ. Let us keep looking at Jesus—whether in reading the Bible or in living life—in all our weakness, confusion, and suffering. Our present troubles are small compared with the glory to come. We fix our gaze on what is unseen, the enduring promise of God's love. May we go forward as jars of clay filled with treasure, living in the joy and mercy of God's revealing, abiding presence. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so.
