On August 6th, 1945, a seven-year-old boy stood in Hiroshima and watched his city burn. He would watch his mother die three years later from radiation sickness. That child grew up to become Issey Miyake, the designer who changed the definition of clothing for the entire world.

In this episode, Jenny takes you through the extraordinary life of Issey Miyake: from the ruins of Hiroshima to the runways of Paris, from his revolutionary philosophy called A Piece of Cloth to the invention of Pleats Please, a line that has been in continuous production for over thirty years because it solves a fundamental human need. Clothing should set you free.

He said he was not designing. He was exploring. Exploring what fabric could do. Exploring what the body could become. Exploring the poetic membrane between a person and the world.

He passed away in 2022, but the love letter he spent his life writing to humanity continues. In every pleated skirt. In every body that relaxes the moment it is put on.
