  • The Wooden Bird - Part Two
    Apr 13 2026

PART TWO: The Wooden Bird continues as we hear how Ukrainian families came up with clever ways to save many Jewish families. Over 2,700 Ukrainians have been recognized as "Righteous Among the Nations" for these efforts. The Wooden Bird was a carved item that the Jewish family kept over many decades since the late 1930s and early 1940s. Our story shows how this item survived the war and finally ended up in the hands of the Ukrainian family that helped the Jewish family during the Holocaust. What a wonder act of love. Watch the brief video version on YouTube.

  • The Wooden Bird - PART ONE

This is a great micro-fictional story based on true events. Back in 1941, many Ukrainian families HELPED Jewish families hide and survive the Nazi occupation of the Soviet Union. Operation Barbarossa was a massive invasion and millions of Jews were targeted and killed. This is one story of survival. Not only did the Ukrainian family help save a Jewish family, this decades later during the Russian - Ukrainian War, they found each other and now the Jewish family were able to help save the Ukrainian family. An enduring story of LOVE lasting many decades as one family returned the favor and helped another family survive. This is PART ONE. Make sure to continue listening for Part Two.
